NY TImes has a good article on the decline of printer sales. Glad I read it because I learned about new web services to solve a problem I have been having and I bet you also.

Rather than print out an article to read later, we hit “Read Later” or Read It Later, ShifD or Google Notebook and read the article on any computer anywhere.

Lots of times I find some interesting web article but I don’t want to read now and interrupt my workflow. [You know you read one article and hours later you wonder what happened to your productivity].

Wouldn’t it be great to bookmark in a quick list that you could instantly recall when ready and finish those articles. When I bookmark in Firebird I can’t find it again easily.

So I signed up [free] for the first one at http://www.instapaper.com

I was delighted to learn that they had just released a iPhone app also. Now that is real value added. So I can bookmark on PC and read on iPhone when I have some time free. Best of all they have an text optimized view that is easy to read without pinching or rotating. Also a web view when that is useful.

Web view

Text view of same page.

Very clean and readable formatting. No eye strain at all. As Micky D says “I’m loving it”

This is now my favorite app right up there with Twitterific. An app that really solves a web surfer’s info distraction overload.

Thanks Marco for a brilliant solution.

This post is coming your way via the new WordPress for iPhone app. I must say that I am now using my iPhone more and more for on the fly Internet based communications.
Twitted is becoming really useful in eavesdropping on the star web 2.0 players. The best way to learn is by modeling those who are more successful. I picked up several tips just this week which I would not have known on my own. The Twitterific app is the only way I tweet. Hardly ever use the web site(terrible UI design)

And now with this app I can post anywhere when the inspiration is hot. That reduces the feeling of burden which is a good thing.
So check it out. I think you too will feel a renewed inspiration.

Apple announced details do the iPhone SDK today and I am impressed.

First a drag and drop UI builder, access to all OS X services, and extensive debugging and performance monitoring. The really big news is the free distribution via AppStore, a iPhone service that will allow WIFI or cell network download and install of new apps. Can you say instant gratification? Developer can charge any price and Apples handles all e-commerce and delivery for 30% fee. If price is free than there are no charges for developer or user. What company do you know will deliver your software for free? iPhone will also also auto-notify if is there is an update available.

This distribution model is a winner. Most software nowadays is given away and money made on premium versions, advertising or support services. Apple now has the hottest mobile platform by far.

We are going to see an absolute explosion of apps. Which will drive more iPhone sales leading to more apps etc.

UPDATE:

WordPress has a native iPhone app for viewing and editing you site. Upload photos, manage comments and write posts. How cool is that.

Also their is a plugin to auto format your site optimally for Safari browsing on the iPhone and other smart phones.

The iPhone Control Panel plugin allows you to easily configure how iPhones and iPod touches “see” your site. It gives you the ability to add custom css, a home screen bookmark icon, change the viewport, or even redirect iPhones and iPod touches to a different url.

Is that cool or what? Sign in was quick and interface is easy to use. Don’t know what it looks like on WAP devices … those users should just throw in the towel and move up to the iPhone.
